Rugby Seven's- Sports Photography by Tracey Grumbach

This weekend I had the opportunity to shoot my youngest son's rugby seven's match. This was exciting for several reasons. First, he is my only child to be involved in rugby, so it is a completely new sport to me. I love sports, so it is fun for me to not only learn a new sport but also photograph it. I am slowly learning the rules and the procedures of the game, but most of the time I am still lost! Secondly, I felt well enough to photograph one of his 15 minute matches, which I haven't been able to do in quite a while. I only had enough energy to shoot one, but it was better than nothing. Below are a few shots from the match.

These last two images are my favorite simply because it captures the moment my son made his first try. (I called it a touchdown but someone corrected me and told me it was called a try, lol.) In rugby, there is not supposed to be any showboating or excessive cheering in the tryzone, but Zach didn't know that and it was, afterall, his very first try (this is only his second weekend playing actual matches)! So, everyone was kind and didn't say a word to him about it. After the game Brian and I explained to him that he wasn't supposed to do that in the future. We do want him to respect the integrity and rules of conduct for the game. But, this one time, I was thrilled to see him excited and celebrating. The raw emotion that came out of him was awesome.

I am thankful that I had an opportunity to spend time with my brother and nephew

yesterday at my nephew's baseball game.

The importance of family is so huge to me now that it is crystal clear

how fragile life is.

I truly enjoyed watching R do his thing...here he is sliding into second

on a stolen base.

I still don't fell like I am back into my groove with the camera yet, but

at least I am picking it up some.

I don't want my father's death to change how I feel about photography.

I am heading back to Virginia with my two little ones today

for a short visit with my mother.

There are still some things that need to be wrapped up and looked after,

so I will be spending a few days there.

The Thrill of Victory

Before the North Harford Hawks state championship game Saturday night

there were two other teams playing for their division title.

I saw the end of the game and captured this moment when the winning players

decided to douse their coach in ice water.

The thrill of victory no doubt numbed him from the cold splash.

I had a nice weekend working around the house and cleaning up for summer.

My front porch, my favorite sanctuary is now swept up,

decorated in beautiful hanging baskets,

and surrounded by beautiful annuals in the garden.

This is my favorite place to drink my morning coffee,

read a good book, or simple just sit and swing,

watching and listening to the birds.

P.S.  The bird from yesterday's post has been identified as a catbird, 

which has a very distinctive "mew" call.

And on a birding note, I saw my first indigo bunting at my feeder yesterday.

I've seen an occasional glance of one flying around these parts, 

but never one at my feeder!

Let's Gooooooo!

Last night I had a great time rooting on our home team

high school baseball team who made it to the State Championship

which was played at Ripken Stadium.

They ultimately lost to their opponents 0-2, but they fought hard

and made the home crowd proud.

I was blessed enough to have a front row seat and my 

Canon 5D with my 100-400mm lens.

I was able to grab a few good shots from my seat,

this being one of my favorite simply because it shows 

one of our players, after a good inning, giving a pep yell,

as I would call it! 

I love the raw emotion in the image and how the attention

of all the other boys is captivated by what this leader is saying.

Concentration- Baltimore Sports Photography

I recently photographed a girl's lacrosse game for a client

and it felt good to be back photographing sports after a long winter hiatus.  

I get such a rush from the trying to capture the precise moment

when the athlete and the equipment tell a story.

I was really thrilled when I went to edit and found this moment...

such a moment of concentration and anticipation

as the ball was getting ready to settle into the pocket of her stick.
